Every May the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) of the Diocese of Steubenville takes up a collection for The Madonna Plan through its parish CWC units. For many years, the DCCW has worked to help the Madonna Plan through the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW) and Catholic Relief Services (CRS.) The Madonna Plan is intended to “empower women by improving the well-being of mothers and expectant mothers through projects in the area of health, education, and financial security,” according to a statement released by CRS. Any parishioners in churches in the Diocese of Steubenville may give donations for the Madonna Plan through their respective CWC members or by forwarding a check (payable to Steubenville DCCW) directly to DeDe Kidder, DCCW Treasurer, at P.O.Box 31, Toronto, Ohio 43964. The funds are then transmitted to CRS for the Madonna Plan.

Every January, on a Sunday convenient to the local parish, members of the Catholic Woman’s Club collect free-will donations for the residents of St. Francis of Assisi Senior Care Center (Centro Gerentologico), a care facility for the abandoned and elderly in the Archdiocese of Cusco (Peru.) The Archdiocese of Cusco (Peru), located in the Andes Mountains, is the sister diocese of the Diocese of Steubenville. This relationship between the dioceses was established by the late Bishop Albert Ottenweller, second bishop of the Diocese of Steubenville, and was renewed by Bishop R. Daniel Conlon. In 2007, Steubenville DCCW adopted a project for the residents of the St. Francis of Assisi Senior Care Center of the Little Sisters of the Abandoned Elderly and, since then, has collected more than $35,000 for the residents of this facility. Moneys are wire transferred to the Archdiocese through Father Paul Hrezo.

The Steubenville DCCW supports Women for Life in the Campaign for Human Dignity through donations to Cross Catholic Outreach. The parish CWC units in the diocese have the opportunity to help needy women around the world by designating that some of their annual May collection sponsored by DCCW be given to Cross Catholic. Their projects include Fighting Human Trafficking and educating and feeding needy families in Haiti, upholding the Sanctity of Life and rescuing starving children in Guatemala. One hundred percent of the proceeds of this appeal will be used for these projects. No administrative fees are retained by Cross Catholic. All money goes directly toward the projects. The DCCW has sent more than $3,000 to Cross Catholic Outreach. The CWC units of the diocese are urged to allocate some of their donations to this worthy cause. Donations should be sent to DCCW Treasurer DeDe Kidder, P.O.Box 31, Toronto, OH 43964, who will forward them to Cross Catholic on behalf of Steubenville DCCW. Checks are to be made payable to Steubenville DCCW.
